Terms of Service

Effective: November 8, 2026

These Terms govern your use of RootMi (the "Service"), an app for writing and sharing chord sheets, developed and run by Dae On Kim ("we"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. The Korean version prevails for users in Korea if the two differ.

1. The Service

RootMi is free. You can write songs and setlists on your device without an account. With an account you can also upload songs and setlists to our server, download them on another device, and share them in groups. Songs are uploaded only when you choose to; nothing is synced in the background.

If you downloaded RootMi from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs your licence to use the app; these Terms cover accounts, uploaded content and groups.

2. Accounts

• You can sign up with an email address, Sign in with Apple or Kakao Login. Use an email address you can receive mail at: account changes and deletion are confirmed by emailed codes.
• Your nickname is visible to other users, and your profile picture to members of your groups. Don't use a nickname that impersonates someone or is offensive; we may ask you to change it.
• Keep your login secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account, unless it happened through our fault.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app (see the Privacy Policy for what is deleted and what is kept).

3. Your content

You keep ownership of the songs, lyrics, notes and setlists you create. By uploading content you allow us to store it, send it to you and to the people you share it with, and display it in the Service, only to run the Service. This permission ends when the content is deleted from our server, except for copies described below.

Upload only content you have the right to share. Many songs and lyrics are protected by copyright; sharing them may need the rights holder's permission. You are responsible for the content you upload and share.

4. Groups and sharing

• Songs and setlists you upload to a group are copies that belong to the group. They stay in the group if you leave it or delete your account; your name is then removed from them, unless you choose to delete every song you wrote when deleting your account.
• Group members can view, edit and download the group's songs. A downloaded copy stays on that member's device, and the author's nickname stays on copies.
• Group admins can remove songs and setlists from the group, undo members' recent edits, and delete the group. A group's only admin must delete the group before deleting their account.

5. Acceptable use and reporting

You agree not to:

• use the Service for anything unlawful, or to upload content that infringes others' rights;
• harass other users or upload offensive content to groups;
• access other users' accounts or data, or try to get around the Service's security;
• upload other people's personal information without their consent;
• overload, scrape or disrupt the Service, or access its server other than through the app.

We may remove content that breaks these rules, and suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks them. Except where urgent action is needed, we'll tell you why by email and give you a chance to respond. You can ask us to review any decision to remove your content or restrict your account.

To report content that infringes your rights (for example, a copyright you hold) or breaks these Terms, email us at the address below with enough detail to find it, such as the song title and the group or author. We'll review it, may remove it, and tell the uploader.

6. Your data and backups

Songs kept only on your device are stored there, not on our server; deleting the app deletes them. Uploading is not a backup: keep copies of important songs, for example by exporting them as .rootmi files.

7. Changes to the Service

We may change, add or remove features. If we intend to end the server features (accounts, uploads or groups), we'll announce it in the app or on this website at least 30 days in advance so you can download your songs.

Server features may need the latest version of the app: older versions may stop working with the server or with files made by newer versions.

8. Disclaimer and liability

The Service is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can't guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by your own actions, other users, or events outside our reasonable control. This does not limit our liability for harm we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, or any rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.

If a court finds any part of these Terms invalid, the rest still applies.

9. Changes to these Terms

We'll post changed Terms on this page with their effective date at least 7 days before they take effect, or 30 days before if the change is to your disadvantage, and announce important changes in the app. If you don't agree with the new Terms, you can stop using the Service and delete your account; using it after the effective date means you accept them.
